kenmore he3 gas dryer not heating up

The Kenmore Elite gas dryer comes with a sophisticated electronic cycle control that you can modify in several ways according to your drying needs. At its core, however, its operation is similar to that of other gas dryers, and barring control panel malfunctions, it can fail to produce heat for the same reasons. Some of these are easy to troubleshoot, but you may need the help of an ohmmeter to diagnose others

how to troubleshoot a kenmore elite gas dryer that won't heat

The first thing you should do when a gas dryer fails to heat is make sure the gas valve is on. Once you've verified that, check the meter on the supply tank, if yours is a propane model. It's also worth your while to turn off the gas valve, disconnect the gas hose and turn the valve on momentarily to make sure gas is flowing, because the pipe might have an obstruction. You could also be overloading the dryer; try removing some of the load and restarting it

The Kenmore Elite dryer has a sensor that detects poor exhaust venting, and when it does, a light flashes on the control panel. This warning light does not include a mechanism to stop gas flow, but if it is allowed to flash for an extended period, poor venting may cause the dryer to overheat. As a result, a fuse might blow and disable the gas valve or ignitor. You can prevent this by diagnosing the reason for the flashing indicator light as soon as possible. In many cases, lint has built up somewhere in the exhaust pipes

To check the operation of the gas ignition and burning system, you have to open the bottom front panel. Work a putty knife between the top of the panel and the dryer casing and press on the two clips located there. The panel door will swing open on its bottom hinges. Start the dryer and watch the heating chamber. If the ignitor glows but no gas flows, the gas valve solenoids may be bad. If the ignitor doesn't glow, on the other hand, it may be bad, or a fuse may be blown

You can verify whether the solenoid, ignitor or fuse are defective with a multimeter set to measure ohms of resistance. With the dryer unplugged, touch the meter leads to the terminals of the element you're measuring; you'll need the dryer manual to help you identify them. If the meter needle jumps to the far right, or the meter beeps, that means that current is flowing and the part is still good. If the needle moves very little, however, or you don't hear a beep on a meter with an audible signal, that signifies an electrical discontinuity in the part, and you should replace it

The ignitor is an important component of a gas dryer, but even if it's brand new, the dryer may not heat for several reasons. Some problems are related to air flow, because air is necessary for combustion of the gas, and some are related to other components of the dryer that may be faulty. Before embarking on a troubleshooting mission, however, make sure that the gas valve is open and the tank isn't empty

how to troubleshoot a kenmore elite gas dryer that won't heat

When you turn on your gas dryer, it begins to suck air into the combustion chamber at the same time that the ignitor begins to glow. When the ignitor is hot enough, a thermostat opens the gas valve and allows gas into the chamber, where it ignites. The burning gas heats the air, which then flows through the drum and continues out the exhaust port. The circuitry of the dryer includes two thermostats and a fuse that can shut off the gas when the temperature reaches a preset limit. If any of these mechanisms is faulty, the gas valve won't open

Because the burner needs air to combust the gas, it's important for the air inlet to be unobstructed. The inlet is usually on the back of the dryer, so the dryer should be in an open space several inches inches from the wall. Blockages in the dryer exhaust can also prevent the dryer from heating, but for a different reason. If air can't get out of the combustion chamber, the chamber overheats, and the thermostat shuts off the gas to protect the dryer. If the condition persists, the fuse can blow, and the gas valve won't open until you replace the fuse

You'll have to unplug the dryer, shut off the gas and remove the cover to test the thermostats and thermal fuse if you suspect one of them to be faulty. You may need to consult the dryer manual in order to locate them. Test continuity with an ohmmeter. When you touch the leads to the terminals of the fuse or the thermostat, a reading of infinite resistance means the component needs to be replaced. You should also test the flame sensor in the same way. It's located in the combustion chamber near the ignitor

Poor air exhaust creates the high temperatures that damage dryer components, and is often the result of blocked vents or a blocked lint trap. Besides making sure that the vent opening is free from lint, you should clear out the vents once a year with a vent brush or a vacuum. Although it doesn't happen very often, the burner coils can fail, and when this happens, the ignitor may cycle on and off, but a flame never appears. The coils can fail in the middle of the drying cycle, and when this happens, the clothes take too long to dry

7 causes why a gas dryer is not heating - how to

1 – Faulty Gas Valve Solenoid CoilsThese open the gas valves and let gas flow into the burner.Check if the igniter is glowing and shuts off but there is no flame. If there is no flame, the Gas Valve Solenoid Coil(s) are faulty and need to be replaced

2 – Blown Thermal Fuse (on blower housing or on burner assembly)The thermal fuse is most likely blown and if the thermal fuse blows, it cuts power to the burner. This is most likely caused by a clogged venting system and the heat cannot escape.Remove the Thermal Fuse and test it for continuity using a multimeter. If the Thermal Fuse has continuity, this lets you know the problem is elsewhere. If the Thermal Fuse has no continuity, it needs to be removed and replaced.Clean out the venting system for your gas dryer with a wand type vacuum cleaner and suck out all lint

3 – Faulty IgniterIgnites the gas in the burner to create a flame. If igniter fails the gas will not be ignited and the gas dryer will not heat up.Remove the Igniter and test it for continuity using a multi-meter.If the Igniter has continuity, this lets you know the problem is elsewhere. If the Igniter has no continuity, it needs to be removed and replaced

4 – Gas Supply To The DryerBe sure the gas supply line is OPEN and supplying gas to your gas dryer.Check to be sure the gas supply line is securly connected to the wall and to the dryer. If you find the gas supply line is damaged, remove and replace it

5 – Defective Flame SensorThis component detects the heat that is emitted by flame. If the Flame Sensor is faulty, the dryer will not heat.Remove the Flame Sensor and test it for continuity using a multi-meter.If Flame Sensor has continuity, this lets you know the problem is elsewhere. If the Flame Sensor has no continuity, it needs to be removed and replaced

6 – Faulty High Limit or Cycling Thermostat (Located on burner assembly)The High Limit Thermostat regulates dryer temp and shuts off the burner if the dryer overheats. The Cycling Thermostat cycles the burner ON and OFF to regulate air temperature. If either of these thermostats are faulty, the burner will not work.Remove the Thermosats and test for continuity using a multi-meter.If the Thermosats have continuity, this lets you know the problem is elsewhere. If the Thermostats have no continuity, one or both needs to be removed and replaced

7 – Faulty or Loose Wiring In Gas DryerA turned off gas valve or improperly connected gas line means no gas can get to the dryer. If any of the wiring going to any of the parts above are loose, not connected, or damaged, this will cause the gas dryer to not heat.Be sure to examine the gas dryer and check ALL wiring as sometimes it is just a simple wiring issue that is causing the dryer to not heat

Kenmore elite gas dryer model 11094834201So I decided to do an extra cleaning of the lint screen, I unscrewed 3 screws that hold the lint screen compartment, there were wires connected to the moisture sensor bars, I was gentle and just laid the whole thing over inside the dryer. Then I cleaned the massive amount of lent that was down inside there. After cleaning all that I could reach I put it back together and screwed the 3 screws back in. Well! I did something???? Now the dryer won’t dry my clothes! It runs fine, starts right up as usual but won’t get hot or stay hot. It’s weird, I’ve pulled the bottom panel off and watched the igniter light the flame and after maybe 5 seconds a click happens and it shuts off. It will try to light up every few minutes but gets clicked off every time, or so I think but also sometimes I go to get laundry out….hey we’ve got 5 kids and beasts for dogs, lots of laundering:/ so yeah we are using it, but anyway sometimes it’s hot in there and the clothes are dry?????????wtheck???? Please somebody help me!!!!!

Kenmore Elite Dishwasher has a noise in the last 2:13 seconds of washing cycle. It sound like it is in the left lower side of washer. Dish washer is empty at the time of noise. I cleaned out trap and screen plus hose to disposal. I have a video of noise. Could I send it to you? I washed a cycle and it cleaned well. Just worried about continued intermittent fluttery noise
